Small Changes Make a Big Difference

Being healthier can seem like a daunting task. Achieving your goal weight, eating all your fruits and vegetables, exercising, meditation, drinking enough water, the list goes on. While all of these large goals are important, it is the small things we do every day that add up to big changes. We have a few suggestions of changes to make to your day to meet your goals

  1. Change up your plate size. We tend to fit the portions to our plate. This means that if we have a larger plate, we serve larger portions and vice versa. By using a larger or smaller plate, you can help guide the food portions you are targeting.
  2. Walk for 30 minutes. This simple task has been shown to improve mood and lower risk for various chronic diseases. This can be a great activity to do with others, or while listening to your favorite audiobook, music, or podcast.
  3. Make time for mindful breathing. Mindful breathing can help relieve anxiety and improve focus. Try the 4-7-8 technique. With this technique, breathe in 4 seconds, hold 7 seconds, and exhale 8 seconds. Repeat this 4 times and stop if you feel lightheaded.
  4. Carry a water bottle with you. If you already have the water bottle in your hand, you’re much more likely to drink from it. This is especially easy, if you use one with a straw attached.
